April 2019 Lecture: Geneviève Gobillot

On Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 17.00 in ‘Maurice BorrmansLibrary of PISAI will be the Conférence Etienne Renaud: « Les fondements coraniques du dialogue interreligieux autour de la personne de Jésus », by Geneviève Gobillot, Université de Lyon 3 Jean Moulin. The Lecture will be in French.

Many works have highlighted in recent years the relations that the Qur’an has with a wide range of earlier scriptures. A new reading method, in the sense that it combines most of the approaches known to date, reveals a hidden side of the text in which these various references appear as invitations to dialogue between communities holding ancient sources, from which they come. This new method makes possible understanding the way by which that the Qur’an realizes this encounter around the axial theme of the Resurrection, a divine promise made to humanity, of which Jesus is both the guarantor and the mediator.

Geneviève Gobillot, Professor Emeritus of Arabic Studies and Islamology at the University of Lyon 3 Jean Moulin, is a member of the PLURIEL research group of the Catholic University of Lyon and of the Institute of Research in Philosophy of the University of Lyon 3 (IRPHIL). She has been working for a substantial period on the intertextual and intercultural readings of the Qur’an, from the perspective of her conception of the rapprochement between all monotheisms. She is the author of numerous books and articles, particularly focused on Muslim mysticism and Qur’anic studies.
