Mystical Traditions: Approaches to Peaceful Coexistence

On 24-25 May 2021, PISAI co-sponsored an online conference entitled “Mystical Traditions: Approaches to Peaceful Coexistence”.

This event, organized by the Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue of Nazareth College in Rochester, New York (USA), brought together more than forty scholars from different disciples related to the study of religion.
A number of PISAI professors and students participated as attendees, as moderators of panels and as presenters: among the panelists, Prof. Martin Wullobayi [in the above picture] presented a paper on Maḥmūd Muḥammad Ṭāhā’s understanding of mystical marriage, and Prof. Jason Welle, Director of Studies at PISAI, gave two presentations on different aspects of medieval mysticism.

The conference, originally planned as an in-person event in Rome in May 2020, was the sixth in a series of conferences organized by Hickey Center, “Sacred Texts and Human Contexts”. This year’s conference continued the tradition of reflecting on sacred texts, focusing on the construction of peaceful alternatives to the current challenges of violence in the world.
