Religious pluralism in Spain

Professor Diego Sarrió Cucarella, M.Afr., President of PISAI, participated on 22-23 February 2021 in the 30th Session for Episcopal Delegates and Directors of Secretariats of Interreligious Relations, organized by the Spanish Bishops’ Conference.

The meeting, held online this year due to the pandemic, was dedicated to religious pluralism in Spain. Prof. Sarrió opened the program with a lecture entitled “History and Theology of Islamic-Christian Dialogue through the Texts”. Mgr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, presented next a communication on the Document on Human Fraternity, signed in Abu Dhabi on February 4, 2019, and its reception in the Muslim majority world.

On the second day, Gonzalo Villagrán, SJ, rector of the Faculty of Theology of Granada, developed the relationship between religion and society in the same Document. Two other lectures, dedicated to jihadist terrorism as a global threat and the presence of Buddhism in Spanish society respectively, completed the program of the Session.
