PISAI'S doctoral students present their work

Three of PISAI’s doctoral students presented their research the morning of 13 February 2020 at an internal seminar for the PISAI academic community. Mariangela Laviano’s presentation was entitled L’esegesi del Corano secondo Muḥammad ʿĀbid al-Ǧābirī (1935-2010), focusing on the qur’ānic interpretation of this contemporary Moroccan intellectual. Fr. John P. Mallare, CICM, then described his research on Yaḥyā b. Sallām (d. 815), an early Muslim author who penned the first complete commentary on the Qur’ān. Fr. Emmanuel Unamba concluded the morning with a presentation on his native Nigeria entitled The Development of Islam in Yoruba Land: The Impact of Arabic Education.
This seminar, held in the Maurice Borrmans Library, forms part of the students’ final year of research, foreseeing the completion of a full draft and defense of the thesis in the months ahead.
