Tehran: Muslims and Christians serving humanity together

The President of the PISAI, Prof. Diego Sarrió Cucarella, MAfr, participated as a speaker in the XI Colloquium between the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (PCID) and the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the theme “Muslims and Christians: Serving Humanity Together”.
The meeting was held in Tehran on 11-12 November 2019. The Vatican delegation was led by Cardinal Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot, MCCJ, President of the PCID. The theme of the colloquium was developed in four panels: “Promoting individual rights and duties”, “Serving together the family and the education of the youth”, “Serving together in society” and “Serving together in the international community”. Professor Sarrió Cucarella’s paper focused on the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together, signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmad Al-Tayyeb in February 2019 in Abu Dhabi. The Vatican delegation also included Prof. Laurent Basanese, SJ, alumnus of the PISAI and current Director of the Gregorian Center for Interreligious Studies. During their stay in Tehran, some members of the Vatican delegation also had a meeting with a group of prominent Iranian Shiite theologians interested in Muslim-Christian dialogue.
