Conference "Tackling violence committed in the name of religion"

Diego Sarrió Cucarella, MAfr, Dean of Studies of PISAI, and Louis Raphaël I Sako, Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans and alumnus PISAI, were speakers at the conference “Tackling violence committed in the name of religion” organized by Wilton Park in association with the Rashad Center for Cultural Governance of the Adyan Foundation and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in Rome, 31 January – Friday 2 February 2018. Established in 1946, Wilton Park is an executive agency of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. It convenes around 65 higher level international policy events a year. In his January 2017 address to the Diplomatic Corps, Pope Francis said that fundamentalist terrorism “can only be defeated with the joint contribution of religious and political leaders”. This event aimed to respond to that challenge by bringing together policy-makers with senior religious leaders, in a private setting and an atmosphere of trust, to address how both can work together to defeat the ideas that inspire religious extremist. Other participants in the conference associated with PISAI were Aref Ali Nayed, Bishop Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot and Monsignor Khaled Akasheh.
