Twenty-Five Years of Episcopacy: Mons. Michael L. Fitzgerald (1992-2017)

On the occasion of the twenty-fifth Anniversary of his Episcopal Ordination, His Excellency Mgr. Michael L. Fitzgerald celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday 29TH January 2017 in the chapel of the General House of the Missionaries of Africa (‘White Fathers’) in Rome, in the presence of many of his confreres and friends. This came after a 6TH January celebration at the Basilica of Saint Anne in Jerusalem.
Born in England, Mgr. Fitzgerald is a member of the Society of the Missionaries of Africa. Having completed his studies in Tunisia and London, he dedicated the greater part of his life to the building of dialogue between Christians and Muslims. He has worked with the PISAI since 1986, first in the role of teacher and then as Rector, and from 1988 worked in the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. Ordained bishop in Rome on 6TH January 1992, he was created an archbishop in 2002 and in 2006 was nominated Apostolic Nuncio in Egypt and representative of the Holy See to the Arabic League. Since 2012, the year of his retirement, Mgr. Fitzgerald has lived and worked in the house of the Missionaries of Africa in Jerusalem.
