27 January 2017: Seminar with Professor Farid Esack

During his visit to Rome for the conference An Islamic Theology of Liberation at the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) on 26TH January, Professor Farid Esack, Head of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Johannesburg, offered a seminar centred around the figure of Lot in the Qur’an, with a reading and exegesis of Q. 11: 74-83. The subsequent reflection focussed upon questions emerging around the characteristics of the impeccability of the prophets in classical Islamic theory, as well as around issues of sexual ethics. The event saw the enthusiastic participation of the entire academic community of PISAI, lecturers and students, as well as invited professors and researchers, among whom were Massimo Campanini, Samuela Pagani, Rosanna Budelli and Fr. Felix Körner, SJ, whose contributions animated the debate.
To Professor Esack, whose outstanding scientific and human qualities emerged on both occasions, go the thanks of the whole of PISAI.
