Marie Nuar, alumna of PISAI, defended her doctoral dissertation at the Angelicum

Marie Nuar, alumna of PISAI, defended her doctoral dissertation at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, the Angelicum, on the 21st of January 2016. The dissertation, entitled “‘I have not created jinn and mankind except to serve Me’. The Anthropology of al-Dhariyat (51):56 and a Comparative Reflection in the Light of Christian Anthropology”, studies the nature of the human person according to the religious texts, focusing on the philosophical-theological anthropology of Islam and Christianity. The first part examines the qur’anic text itself, focusing on the word “ya‘budūn”. The second part examines various recurring themes in the commentaries and other Islamic works which speak of how and why one worships and serves God. At each stage of the examination, comparisons are drawn with Christian anthropology, highlighting areas of agreement, tension, similarity and difference. The PISAI congratulates Marie for her successful defence.
