On Saturday 27th January 2024, Prof. Christopher Clohessy joined Prof. Paolo Branca (Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the Catholic University of Milan) and Prof. Giancarlo Anello (Associate Professor of Intercultural Law & Economics & Anthropology and Institutions of Islam at the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Industries (DUSIC), University of Parma-Italy) for a conference on the person of ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib as seen through the eyes of non-Muslim scholars. The conference, the 9th in a series, was organised by the Shīʿī Islamic Confederation of Italy and was held online. Prof. Branca addressed the topic of ‘Figures and spirituality of Shīʿī Islam in the thought of Louis Massignon’; Prof. Anello spoke of ‘The reception of Imām ʿAlī’s justice in the West, from Massignon to the present day’, and Prof. Clohessy reflected on ‘Textual reflections of ʿAlī’s justice and spirituality in his daughter Zaynab’.
