Augustin Sawadogo, invited professor of PISAI, gave a paper at the 9th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS9) which took place at the University of Cologne on 31 May-3 June 2023 under the theme «African Futures». This important event gathered about 1900 participants from 80 countries. 1400 papers were presented across 245 panels and roundtables. Prof. Sawadogo presented a paper entitled: «Islamic education between two worldviews? The Ecoles franco-arabes in Burkina Faso» in the panel «Islam in Africa in global context: African engagements at the intersection of the local, the transregional, and the global».
Prof. Sawadogo also attended the 2nd Sacred Texts International Conference that was held at the University of Ghana-Accra on 21-23 June 2023, under the theme: «Interpreting sacred texts in contemporary Africa: concepts, methods and approaches». He gave a paper entitled: «A new authoritative approach to interpreting the Qurʾān or a forbidden innovation (bidʿa)? The case of the Cultural Committee of the Generation of the “three Testaments” (CCGT) in Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Mali». The conference welcomed 51 participants from 9 countries, representing over twenty institutions.
