The PISAI academic community congratulates Adrien Candiard, o.p., who brilliantly defended his doctorate before an eminent jury at the École pratique des hautes études (EPHE) in Paris on 9 December 2022. Under the direction of Professor Christian Jambet, the title of the thesis was ‘Le concept de vérité dans le Darʾ taʿāruḍ al-ʿaql wa-l-naql d’Ibn Taymiyya’.
Adrien Candiard is French and has lived in Cairo since 2012, where he is currently a member of the Institut dominicain d’études orientales (IDEO). After his education in history and political sciences, he entered the Dominican Order in 2006. After theological studies, he obtained a master’s degree in Islamic Studies at the American University of Cairo, before pursuing his doctoral research at EPHE. He is the author of En finir avec la tolérance? Différences religieuses et rêve andalou (PUF, Paris 2014) and Comprendre l’islam. Ou plutôt : pourquoi on n’y comprend rien (Flammarion, Paris 2016).
Andrien Candiard is invited lecturer of Islamic Studies at PISAI from the 2019-2020 academic year.
