PISAI joins the mourning of the Society of Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and the Diocese of Wa (Ghana) on the sudden death of Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr, who passed away on Sunday, 27 November 2022 in Rome, Italy.
Richard Kuuia Baawobr was born on 21 June 1959 in Tom-Zendagangn, Ghana. After his philosophical studies started in 1979 at the St. Victor Diocesan Major Seminary in Tamale, he joined the Missionary Society of Africa in 1981, where he continued his preparation for the priesthood. He was ordained a priest on 18 July 1987. After ordination, he held various offices and completed his course of Bible studies, until 2010, when he was elected Superior General of the Missionaries of Africa. On 17 February 2016, Pope Francis appointed him bishop of the diocese of Wa and subsequently created him cardinal on 27 August 2022.
The PISAI gratefully recalls the presence of Cardinal Baawobr, who served as the Institute’s Vice Grand Chancellor from 2010 to 2016, and extends its sincerest condolences to his family, confreres and the faithful of the Wa diocese.
