The Forum of the Gregorian Centre for Interreligious Studies was held on Monday 28 February 2022 at 6pm, with a talk entitled “Fr Christian de Chergé and the Tibhirine Monastery: signs of hope in the bond of peace in Algeria”, presented by Dr Livia Passalacqua, alumna of PISAI and doctoral student in Missiology at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
Christian de Chergé, OCSO, beatified with the other martyrs of Algeria on 8 December 2018 in Oran, was prior of the monastery Notre-Dame de Atlas in Tibhirine, where he lived in solidarity and communion with the Algerian people together with his Trappist brothers until his murder in 1996.
Seven of the martyrs of Algeria are PISAI alumni: Christian de Chergé, four White Fathers killed in Tizi Ouzou, Sr. Odette Prévost, PSSC, and Sr. Esther Paniagua Alonso, AM.
The Forum outlined highlights of the experience of the Ribat es-Salam (Bond of Peace) group, founded by Christian de Chergé in 1979 with Claude Rault, MAfr.
