On Friday 14 May 2021 Mariangela Laviano brilliantly defended her doctoral thesis entitled ‘Muḥammad ʻĀbid al-Ǧābirī: From the Critique of Arab Reason to Qur’anic Exegesis. Inclusivity and Exclusivity’, at the Maurice Borrmans Library of the PISAI.
The examining committee was composed of Prof. Wasim Salman (PISAI, moderator of the thesis), Prof. Valentino Cottini (PISAI) and Prof. Paolo Branca (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan). Prof. Diego Sarrió Cucarella, M.Afr, President of PISAI, chaired the defence, which was held in Italian.
Prof. Massimo Campanini, a great scholar of Islamic thought, who directed the thesis until his premature death on 9 October 2020, was remembered with gratitude.
The PISAI academic community warmly congratulates Mariangela Laviano and wishes her all the best for her future.
