On 5 March 2020, Georgetown University’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (ACMCU) awarded Dr. John Borelli the 2020 Building Bridges Lifetime Achievement Award for the promotion of religious pluralism and human rights.
Dr. Borelli is currently Special Assistant for Catholic Identity and Dialogue to President John J. DeGioia of Georgetown University. Dr. Borelli has been at Georgetown since 2004, where he teaches, manages conferences and events, facilitates workshops, and promotes university relations with offices and institutes of the Holy See, including the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies. Prior to this, Dr. Borelli served sixteen years (1987 to 2003) as Associate Director of the Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He was a consultor to the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue for seventeen years. Among his numerous publications can be mentioned Interfaith Dialogue: A Catholic View, co-authored with Cardinal Michael L. Fitzgerald (SPCK/Orbis Books, 2006).
