Le don de Tibhirine. Conference in Fribourg

On December 13-14, 2019, the International Conference “Le don de Tibhirine” (the Gift of Tibhirine) was held at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the beatification of the 19 martyrs of Algeria. Seven of them are former students of PISAI: the prior of Tibhirine, Christian de Chergé, whose correspondence with Maurice Borrmans, MAfr, is published in Lettres à un ami fraternal; the 4 White Fathers killed in Tizi Ouzou; sister Odette Prévost, PSSC; and Sister Esther Paniagua Alonso, AM.
During the conference, Livia Passalacqua, PISAI alumna and doctoral student in Missiology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, gave a paper entitled “Les ‘témoins de l’Emmanuel’ du Ribat es-Salam (1996-2016) et leur lien avec les 19 bienheureux martyrs d’Algérie”. The conference proceedings will be available in March 2020.
The conference was distinguished by the presence of significant guests, including Msgr. Henri Teissier, Archbishop Emeritus of Algiers, and Fr. Jean-Marie Lassausse, who served as guardian of Tibhirine from 2001 to 2016, and speakers such as Jean-Jacques Pérennès, OP, Nayla Tabbara and Claudio Monge, OP.
