The Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) is happy to announce the recent double appointment of Jason Welle, OFM, as professore straordinario and Dean of Studies of PISAI. Father Welle is a Franciscan friar of the Assumption B.V.M. Province in the United States. His teaching and research focus on interreligious dialogue, Muslim-Christian relations, the Franciscan intellectual tradition, and Islamic mysticism, particularly in the medieval period. He has published articles in a number of scholarly journals, including The Muslim World, Islamochristiana, and the Journal of Ecumenical Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Theological and Religious Studies from Georgetown University and master’s degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the Catholic Theological Union. Father Welle has been collaborating with PISAI since the 2015-2016 academic year. The entire community of PISAI congratulates Father Welle on his appointment and wishes him every success in his new responsibilities for the academic life of the Institute.
