Father Giuseppe Scattolin, Comboni Missionary of the Heart of Jesus, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination in Cairo, where he has worked and lived for many years. The celebration is scheduled for 16th November at 18h00 in the church of Cordi Jesu.
Giuseppe Scattolin was born in Pinzolo (Trento) in 1942 and was ordained priest in 1968. Since 1969 he has lived, studied and taught in the Arab world, in Lebanon, Sudan and Egypt. In 1986 he obtained a doctorate in Islamic mysticism with a thesis on the Egyptian Sufi poet ʻUmar Ibn al-Fārid (m 632/1235), at the PISAI (Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies) in Rome, where he taught from 1988 to 2016. He also taught at the Pontifical University Gregorian between 2003 and 2004. At present, he collaborates with some scientific research institutes in Cairo, in particular with the IDEO (Institut Dominicain des Études Orientales) and IFAO (Institut Français d'Archéologie Orientale), and teaches at the Dar Comboni Center for Arabic Studies.
