On 22 February at 5pm Lecture by Michel Lagarde, professor emeritus of PISAI : “L’obsession de la Parole : Présentation de Le parfait manuel des sciences coraniques de Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī (1445-1505)”. Lecture in French.

In al-Suyūṭī’s (1445-1515) The Perfect Handbook of the Qur’ānic Sciences, we find a complete description of the problems concerning the Qur’ānic text that still arise today, of the solutions proposed and the methods employed. This text bears witness to both freedom of debate and the variety of solutions. It is a collection of multiple accounts, both prior to and contemporary with the author, and not simply an isolated, subjective opinion. Its aim is to be the guide for every good Qur’ān commentator because of the abundant information it provides on all the Qur’ānic sciences.

Michel Lagarde, PhD (1984), after a long stay (10 years) in Mali (Sikasso, Ségou, Gao-Tombouctou) in a Muslim environment was professor of Arabic and Qur’ānic tafsīr at the PISAI (Rome) from 1978 to 2013.
