On Tuesday May 5th, Mariangela Laviano, currently a student of PISAI, attendeed, as PISAI’s representative, the study day in memory of the philosopher and Moroccan intellectual Mohammed Abed al-Jabri, who died on May 3, 2010. The conference, held at LUISS University in Rome, was entitled "Mohammed Abed al-Jabri and the Future of the Arab world". The event was organized by Luiss University, in collaboration with the Arab Renaissance Organization for Development and Democracy (AARD) of Jordan, Reset Dialogue on Civilizations of Rome and the Embassy of Morocco. The speakers were professors and academics from Italy, Morocco and the US including: Francesca Corrao, Massimo Campanini, Abdu Filali Ansari, Fred Dallmayr, Abdallah Saaf and Eyadat Zaid. In her talk, Mariangela considered what this Moroccan intellectual has written concerning the treatment of the Qur’an as yet little explored, addressing issues such as how the sacred text came into being and how it developed. She also spoke of the phenomenon of methodological approach to re-interpreting the Qur’an proposed by the author.
