Nowadays
Starting from 2006 H. H. the Pope Benedict XVI manifested his personal interest in the PISAI and decided, trough the Congregation for Catholic Education, to strengthen the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, under the protection of the Holy See, with the contribution of the APSA (Amministrazione Patrimonio Sede Apostolica).

'The Holy See, for its part, seeks to carry forward this important work through the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue,  the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, and various Pontifical Universities.'
(Address of His Holiness during his Apostolic Journey to the USA, OR, 19 april 2008, p.10)

Nowadays the PISAI is under the direct authority of the Pope, through the Congregation for Catholic Education; the Society of Missionaries of Africa is in charge of all academic and administrative responsibilities. The PISAI at present is a well renowned specialized centre of Arabic studies and research, with a rich and unique library, where visitors from all over the world come for their research. The PISAI is engaged in giving its students and visitors the chance to know Islam in an impartial way, based on a thorough study of Arabic language and the possibility to approach the Islamic sources in the original language. Its students, at the end, will be able to start on the path of dialogue with the Muslims, thanks to their acquired knowledge and skills.
